About Visakhapatnam Division

The Visakhapatnam Division is one of the most strategically important railway divisions under South Coast Railway. Headquartered in the coastal city of Visakhapatnam, the division serves as a major transportation hub connecting Andhra Pradesh with Odisha, West Bengal, Telangana, and other parts of India. Its location near the Bay of Bengal and the presence of one of India's largest ports make it a vital center for railway operations and economic activities. The division plays a significant role in freight transportation by supporting the movement of commodities such as coal, iron ore, steel, petroleum products, fertilizers, cement, and container cargo. It serves major industrial establishments including Visakhapatnam Port, Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), and various power and manufacturing industries. The efficient handling of freight traffic contributes substantially to railway revenue and supports industrial growth in the region. Apart from freight operations, the division provides extensive passenger services connecting major cities and towns across India. Important railway stations such as Visakhapatnam, Simhachalam, Vizianagaram, Srikakulam Road, and Palasa serve thousands of passengers every day. The division continuously focuses on infrastructure development, modernization, safety improvements, and passenger amenities to provide efficient and reliable railway services.
